Changes in senior finance and legal positions follow 11 consecutive quarters of strong ARR growth since the company’s IPO and a trend toward positive adjusted EBITDA in the fourth quarter. BigCommerce, a leading Open SaaS ecommerce platform for rapidly expanding and established B2C and B2B firms, announced the July 1 appointment of Daniel Lentz as Chief Financial Officer. Lentz, the company’s Senior Vice President of Finance and Investor Relations, succeeds Robert Alvarez, the longstanding Chief Financial Officer, who is retiring.
The company also announced Chuck Cassidy’s appointment as General Counsel, effective June 2. Cassidy, who has served as Vice President and Associate General Counsel for BigCommerce, succeeds retiring Chief Legal Officer Jeff Mengoli.
BigCommerce also announced the appointment of Hubert Ban as the company’s Chief Accounting Officer, succeeding Thomas Aylor, who departed the company on May 19. Ban will begin working for BigCommerce on June 8. Until then, Alvarez will serve as BigCommerce’s chief accounting officer. Brent Bellm, CEO of BigCommerce, thanked RA, Jeff, and Thomas for their leadership and significant contributions to BigCommerce over many years and congratulated Daniel, Chuck, and Hubert on their new positions.
Since 2011, Alvarez has served as BigCommerce’s chief financial officer. In that time, he has played a crucial role in transforming the company from a small business solution to a comprehensive, industry-leading enterprise ecommerce platform serving businesses of all sizes in more than 150 countries with $317 million in annual recurring revenue, up from $7 million when he joined. He oversaw all aspects of BigCommerce’s financial and operational strategy and led the company through multiple private funding rounds with top venture capitalists, its IPO in 2020, and its first follow-on offering. Alvarez has also had a significant impact on BigCommerce’s culture, instilling accountability, transparency, inclusiveness, and “humility” throughout the organization. During Alvarez’s tenure as CFO of BigCommerce, the company’s workplace culture has received a number of awards, and he has received a number of professional accolades for his role.
After nearly five years supervising finance and investor relations at BigCommerce, Lentz assumes the role of CFO. As a member of the senior leadership team at BigCommerce, he was responsible for the company’s financial activity, including external financial guidance, capital markets, and investor relations. He was responsible for all financial forecasting, planning, pricing, sales compensation, and operations.
After more than seven years as BigCommerce’s Chief Legal Officer, Mengoli has decided to retire. During his tenure as the company’s first legal officer, he has assembled a talented group of attorneys. Similarly to Alvarez, he played a crucial role during the company’s growth as a private enterprise and helped guide BigCommerce through its IPO, secondary offering, and other significant corporate transactions.
Cassidy has spent nearly six years at BigCommerce, most recently as Vice President and Associate General Counsel, before being promoted to General Counsel. Ban has been employed by Salesforce since 2008 and held this position since 2020. He has supervised SEC, international statutory, board of directors, ESG, and technical and equity accounting. He was involved in the Mulesoft, Tableau, and Slack acquisitions. Prior to joining Salesforce, he held accounting and reporting positions at Morgan Stanley, Ernst & Young, and Deloitte, among others.
