The integration of NVIDIA NeMo with Snowflake enables businesses to construct large language models using their own proprietary data in a secure manner within the Snowflake Data Cloud.

Snowflake, the Data Cloud company, and NVIDIA announced their partnership at the Snowflake Summit 2023 to provide businesses of all sizes with an accelerated path to create customized generative using their own proprietary data, AI applications are hosted within the Snowflake Data Cloud.

With the NVIDIA NeMoTM platform for developing large language models (LLMs) and NVIDIA GPU-accelerated computing, Snowflake will enable businesses to use Snowflake data to create custom LLMs for sophisticated generative AI services, such as chatbots, search, and summarization. With the ability to modify LLMs without moving data, Snowflake ensures that sensitive data remains completely protected and governed.

“Snowflake’s collaboration with NVIDIA will bring advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence to our enormous amount of exclusive and structured enterprise data, opening up an exciting new opportunity for delivering unprecedented insights, forecasts, and orders to the global business world,” said Frank Slootman, Snowflake’s chairman and CEO.

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stated that data is essential for developing generative AI applications that comprehend the complex operations and unique voice of every company. “Together, NVIDIA and Snowflake will create an AI factory that enables businesses to transform their own valuable data into custom generative AI models to power innovative new applications — directly from the cloud platform they use to operate their businesses.”

The collaboration between NVIDIA and Snowflake represents a new opportunity for businesses. It will allow them to use their proprietary data, which can range from hundreds of terabytes to petabytes of raw and curated business information, to construct and fine-tune custom LLMs that power industry-specific applications and services.

By integrating AI technology from Snowflake and NVIDIA, customers can rapidly construct, deploy, and manage customized applications that bring the power of generative AI to all aspects of their business across a wide range of use cases. Moreover, expanding AI capabilities in the Data Cloud enables these customers to construct generative AI applications where their governed data already resides, a benefit that significantly reduces cost and latency while maintaining data security.

“More businesses than we anticipated are training or at least fine-tuning their own AI models, as they recognize the value of their own data assets,” said Alexander Harrowell, chief analyst for advanced computation for AI at technology research firm Omdia. “Similarly, businesses are beginning to operate increasingly diversified fleets of AI models for enterprise-specific applications. Supporting them in this trend is one of the sector’s greatest untapped opportunities.”

The Snowflake Data Cloud enables enterprises to unify, integrate, analyze, and share data across their organizations, as well as with customers, partners, suppliers, and others (as of April 30, 2023, with over 8,000 customers worldwide). In addition, the Data Cloud enables customers to build and share leading data applications at scale.

Snowflake’s unified platform provides industry-specific Data Clouds to facilitate the delivery of innovative solutions across multiple verticals and business lines, including advertising, media and entertainment, financial services, healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing, retail and consumer packaged goods, and technology and telecommunications. Snowflake has recently introduced the Government and Education Data Cloud to facilitate data-driven decision making in the public sector.
